Boca Grande View

Introduction

Boca Grande, Florida is a small town on a beautiful island. Light blue ocean and sugar sand beaches surround the isle. This picturesque view draws in visitors and tourists. What if you wanted to share that view with the world, live, in order to attract more people?

Challenge

The Internet is a great medium for sharing information, including cameras feeds. Analog and HD-SDI cameras cannot directly communicate with a network; they would need a converter or adaptor. An IP camera is a more appropriate solution.

Most IP cameras, LTS Platinum and V Series included, have a web client interface. They require a username and password to use; remote access can be granted via port forwarding. This solution is not scalable due to limited simultaneous logins. Furthermore, the camera streams and local upload speeds have limits.

Solution

Our Platinum series of IP cameras, such as CMIP5323, supports a feature called RTSP (Real Time Streaming Protocol). This is an open video streaming standard designed for interoperability. Alone, the IP camera can only support a few RTSP connections, but with a reflector streaming service the bandwidth limitations can be overcome.

The reflector service, HDRelay in this case, takes one stream from the camera and copies it. Pricing is in tiers depending on the bandwidth needs of the customers. The service is fully compatible with any Platinum Series IP camera because they support RTSP.

Results

The cameras are installed and linked to the Internet. The solution has been realized: two LTS Platinum Series IP cameras are visible to the world. At the time of writing, the customer is negotiating the reflector streaming account details. In the interim, HDRelay has made low quality demo links available (HD/720P is possible). When an update is available it will be reflected in this article.

Note: 0.3 megapixel demonstration camera feeds.
